ICON Grading & Construction is actively hiring an experienced heavy equipment operator for full-time field work across Eastern Jackson County and the greater Kansas City metro. This is a small, owner-operated crew delivering residential and commercial site work with GPS-guided equipment and an owner who is on the job site.
Required Qualifications
2+ years operating heavy equipment in excavation, grading, or site work
Multi-machine experience preferred: excavator plus at least one of dozer, grader, or skid steer
Ability to read grades and follow site plans to specified tolerances
Daily equipment inspection habits: pre-op checks, fluid levels, greasing schedule
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Able to work outdoors in all conditions, communicates clearly, leaves job sites clean

What the Work Looks Like
Project scope is broad by design: building pads and foundations, commercial site prep, utility trenching, drainage corrections, and pond work. On any given week, you may move between a residential excavation in Blue Springs and a commercial grading job in Lee's Summit. Kansas City clay is unforgiving, and working in this region requires operators who understand how moisture-sensitive subgrade behaves and how to adjust when conditions change.
Our Technology
At ICON, we run Topcon GPS machine control systems for precision grading. If you have GPS-guided grading experience, it transfers directly. Strong machine hours and grade sense without GPS background is also considered.
Equipment you will operate: excavator, dozer, skid steer, and motor grader. Multi-machine capability is preferred over single-machine depth.
