We self-perform every phase, from the first cut to the finished grade.
Full Pool Removal: Walls, floor, rebar and abandoned plumbing broken out and hauled off site. Cavity backfilled to native subgrade in compacted lifts, leaving a buildable footprint.
Partial Pool Fill-In: Walls broken down below finished grade, floor perforated for drainage, clean fill placed over the shell in compacted lifts.
Above-Ground Pool Removal: Structure, sand base and surrounding deck removed, footprint graded flat into the existing yard.
Concrete Deck, Coping & Hardscape Removal: Decking, coping, pavers and low retaining walls demolished and hauled with the pool.
Utility Disconnects & Equipment Removal: Gas, electric and water lines to the pool located and abandoned. Pumps, filters, heaters and the equipment pad removed.
Backfill, Compaction & Final Grading: Clean fill in 6-inch lifts compacted to 95 percent standard Proctor, finished to elevations that drain away from the house.
Partial Fill-In vs. Full Removal
Full removal if anything is getting built on that footprint: an addition, garage, shop, slab or driveway. The shell comes out completely and the cavity backfills to native subgrade, so normal footing design applies and there is nothing left in the ground to disclose at resale.
Partial fill-in if the space is going back to lawn, garden, patio or play area. Faster and less expensive, and with clean fill compacted in 6-inch lifts it holds grade under those loads.

What Keeps a Filled-In Pool From Settling in Kansas City Clay
Kansas City clay holds water instead of passing it, so a cavity backfilled carelessly settles into a depression that collects it. Every ICON fill goes in to the same spec:

Should I fully remove my pool or fill it in?
If the area is returning to lawn, garden or a light patio, a properly compacted partial fill-in is usually sufficient. If a garage, shop, addition or structural slab is anywhere in the plan, full removal is the better call.
Can I build on the spot where a pool used to be?
After a full removal, that footprint is treated like any other ground and normal footing design applies. After a partial fill-in, structures are generally restricted without engineering or over-excavation, though patios and landscaping are usually fine.
Do I need a permit to remove a pool in the Kansas City area?
