The Technology You Will Run

ICON runs Topcon GPS machine control on grading work. Not every small contractor runs it. If you have used it, you already know what it does for a tight grade. If you have not but you know your way around a machine, you will pick it up fast.

It matters beyond the seat, too. Grade set by GPS is the grade the pipe has to follow, so crew members who understand what the system is telling the job catch problems before they turn into rework. What GPS experience is worth on a job listing is worth reading if you are deciding whether to chase it.

Where the Work Is

ICON is based in Grain Valley and works across Eastern Jackson County and the greater Kansas City metro. Job sites run through Blue Springs, Lee's Summit, Independence, Odessa, Lone Jack, Warrensburg, and west into Overland Park and Lenexa, plus rural ground beyond the metro line.

Do I need GPS experience to run equipment at ICON?

No. GPS experience is a plus but it is not required. If you know your way around a machine, Topcon machine control is something you can pick up on the job.

Only for the dump truck driver role, which requires a valid Class A CDL, though a Class B is considered with construction experience. The operator and pipe crew positions require a valid driver's license with a clean record.

Is the work year-round?

Yes. Projects run year-round across the KC metro across residential, commercial, and infrastructure work. Overtime is available.

Is there a drug screen?

Yes. A drug screen is required for all field positions at ICON.
